MINORU YASUI AMERICAN INN OF COURT

Greetings, and thank you for your interest in the Minoru Yasui American Inn of Court.

American Inns of Court are made up of judges, attorneys from various practices, law professors, and law students who meet monthly to promote collegiality and mentorship. Inns host events focusing on ethics, skills, and professionalism, and participate in charitable initiatives that benefit their communities.

Our Inn was founded in Denver in 1996.  Our namesake, Minoru Yasui, spent his lifetime fighting discrimination. During World War II, he deliberately violated a curfew law imposed on Japanese Americans to challenge its constitutionality, resulting in his conviction (later overturned) and incarceration in an internment camp. His legacy as a beacon for justice and civil rights continues to inspire our Inn’s members. 

Our Inn, with our great group of members, is a space where we can put aside our busy, stressful day jobs and enjoy great food, company, learning, community service, and mentorship.  We can literally “break bread” in a neutral setting with attorneys who may be our adversaries on cases but are actually our colleagues.

It is a great honor to be involved with this group – including because I have a childhood memory of Minoru Yasui speaking at my school in the Denver Public Schools.  My goals are for all to feel welcome and for our Inn events to be worthy of members’ valuable time.

The Community Service Committee is kicking off this holiday season with a food and donation drive to benefit Food Bank of the Rockies at the November 14 meeting. We ask all members attending to bring along either a cash donation OR non-perishable food items (or both!) to donate to the Food Bank: 

• Food Bank of the Rockies can do more with cash donations than food items; in fact, just $1 can provide three meals! If you would prefer to donate cash, bring in a check payable to Food Bank of the Rockies, and we'll deliver it to the organization. Alternatively, you can donate online here
• If you would prefer to donate food, that's great, too! Acceptable items include peanut butter, pasta, canned beans, soup, and canned vegetables. However, please do NOT bring any items in glass containers, as Food Bank of the Rockies will not accept them. We have also attached a flyer with more examples of items to bring.
